Joint replacement surgery is an open surgery, not minimally invasive, because it requires an incision to expose the surgical field, making it more invasive, more costly, and more difficult than minimally invasive surgery. Joint replacement surgery takes longer, bleeds more, and carries a much higher risk than minimally invasive surgery. Joint replacement surgery is mainly performed when there is obvious degeneration of the joints, narrowing of the joint space, severe osteoarthritis, obvious symptoms of pain and unfavorable movement, and the effect of conservative treatment is not good, which seriously affects the normal quality of life, and then joint replacement surgery is chosen. The surgery is mainly categorized into two types: biological and cemented. For younger patients, the biological type is preferred because of the service life of the prosthesis. For older patients, the cement type is cheaper than the biologic type.
