Dietary guidelines for appendicitis

If you have appendicitis and have not yet had surgery, you should generally eat a light diet at this time. Before surgery, you generally have to strictly abstain from water and eating. This is because eating will increase the burden on the gastrointestinal tract and aggravate the development of appendicitis. After appendicitis surgery, a liquid diet is the mainstay, first rice soup, thin rice, noodles slowly transition to dry rice. If you eat dry rice or overeat after surgery, it will lead to an increased burden on the gastrointestinal tract and some complications. For example, postoperative intestinal obstruction, abdominal distension and abdominal pain cannot be relieved, and abdominal edema increases, leading to fecal fistula, diffuse peritonitis, and the need for a second operation. Therefore, whether before or after surgery, it is advisable to eat less and try to have a semi-liquid diet when you have appendicitis.
