What is bursal effusion?

The cause of bursal effusion is mainly due to prolonged excessive stretching, stimulation, friction and compression of the bursal area, which will cause repeated stimulation of the bursa and local inflammatory exudation, and over time, effusion will occur. Such a patient will cause local pain symptoms, and in serious cases may affect the patient’s normal local activities. The treatment is to keep the patient strictly at rest, and protection is very critical to minimize local irritation. Repeated irritation may aggravate the patient’s clinical symptoms and is detrimental to recovery. Active local hot compresses or scalding, and topical ointments that activate blood circulation and resolve blood stasis, such as Yunnan Baiyao cream and blood pain relief cream, can be effective. In addition, such patients can have localized painful spot closure injections, usually with prednisolone acetate and lidocaine, which are effective.
