What tests are needed for carotid artery stenosis

Any part of the human body plays an irreplaceable role in the body’s circulatory system. The carotid artery, an important blood vessel, is divided into two branches: the common carotid artery and the external carotid artery, which are shaped in a “V” pattern. The degree of carotid artery stenosis cannot be seen by the naked eye alone, and can only be accurately determined with the help of some medical tests. What tests are required for carotid artery stenosis? Magnetic Resonance Angiography (MRA) is a non-invasive vascular imaging technique that clearly shows the three-dimensional shape and structure of the carotid arteries and their branches, and can reconstruct intracranial arterial images. However, there are limitations to this technique, such as signal deficits when blood flow is slow, making stenosis measurements inaccurate, and the inability to examine patients with metal retention in their bodies. Digital subtraction angiography (DSA) is now the gold standard for the diagnosis of carotid stenosis, providing a detailed understanding of the site, extent, and degree of stenosis as well as the formation of side branches, and accurately determining the nature of the lesion, thus providing a valuable imaging basis for surgical treatment. Carotid endarterectomy is a recognized procedure for the treatment of carotid artery stenosis, which can directly peel off and remove the diseased endothelium causing carotid artery blockage and restore the lumen of the carotid artery to patency, with outstanding results and high patient satisfaction.
