How long can you live after surgery for bladder cancer?

Survival time of bladder cancer patients after surgery should be judged according to the pathological type of bladder cancer, clinical stage, physical condition of patients, etc. The specific survival time cannot be determined with certainty, for example, the 5-year survival rate of patients with Ta-T1 stage can reach 91.9%, while the median survival time of patients with advanced stage is around 14 months. Bladder cancer is the most common tumor among the urinary system, including uroepithelial carcinoma, squamous carcinoma, adenocarcinoma, sarcoma and so on. Its histologic grading is divided into G1 grade well-differentiated, G2 grade moderately differentiated, and G3 grade poorly differentiated. The staging of bladder cancer adopts TNM criteria, Tis carcinoma in situ, T1 tumor tissue invades to the subcutaneous tissue, T2 has invaded to the muscular layer, T3 invades to the tissues around the bladder, T4 invades to any of the prostate, uterus, vagina and pelvic wall, N refers to the infiltration of lymph nodes and M refers to the metastasis to distant organs. Currently, according to statistics, the 5-year survival rate is 91.9% for Ta-T1 patients, 84.3% for T2 stage patients, 43.9% for T3 patients, and 10.2% for T4 patients. The more advanced the patient’s survival time is shorter, in addition to surgical treatment, must be based on the will of timely adjuvant radiotherapy, can effectively improve the postoperative status.
