Benefits of minimally invasive laparoscopic hernia repair

Inguinal hernias are the most common type of abdominal wall hernia, commonly known as hernias. The traditional management of inguinal hernias involves a 6-8 cm incision in the inguinal region and placement of a patch for reinforcement. In recent years, with the development of laparoscopic techniques and reconceptualization of inguinal canal anatomy, laparoscopic minimally invasive hernia repair has received increasing attention. It has become a routine procedure in foreign countries and has been accepted by many medical practitioners in China. Laparoscopic hernia repair is suitable for all kinds of abdominal wall hernias, including adult inguinal hernia, incisional hernia, paracentesis hernia, etc. It is more suitable for multiple hernia, recurrent hernia and patients with old age, multiple comorbidities and poor surgical tolerance. The main types of laparoscopic inguinal hernia repair are transperitoneal anterior hernia repair and complete extraperitoneal hernia repair. The recurrence rate after laparoscopic hernia repair is significantly lower than that of traditional open surgery, and is the main direction of future hernia treatment development. The advantages of laparoscopic minimally invasive hernia repair (compared with traditional open hernia repair): 1. beautiful wound and small incision, only three small holes of 0.5-1.0 cm need to be made in the abdominal wall, which does not damage the integrity of the abdominal wall. 2. 2.The repair is complete, and it can timely detect the occult hernia which is missed because of no seizure (the incidence of occult hernia is 20%-30%). 3.For bilateral inguinal hernia, the simultaneous repair without additional poking holes is more obvious with minimally invasive effect. 4.It is the best choice for recurrent hernia. 5.No damage to the normal anatomy of inguinal canal, no damage to the nerves, light postoperative pain, no damage to the spermatic cord blood vessels, avoiding the occurrence of ischemic testicular inflammation. 6.Low complications, rarely causes scrotal edema and urinary retention. 7. The recurrence rate of hernia after surgery is lower than that of traditional hernia repair.
