How long it takes for a lung nodule to turn into cancer

The time it takes for a lung nodule to transform into cancer varies from one body type to another. It usually takes 5-10 years or even longer to develop. Nodules with malignant tendency need to go through the steps of atypical tumor-like hyperplasia – carcinoma in situ – micro-invasive adenocarcinoma to develop into true lung cancer. It usually takes 5-10 years or even longer, and the exact time is affected by the individual’s physical condition, environment, living and eating habits, etc., with individual differences. However, the majority of lung nodules, especially those with a diameter of 8mm or less, have a very low chance of turning into cancer. If the nodule is more than 8mm in diameter and the CT scan shows a glassy nodule, the CT scan should be repeated regularly to see if the nodule continues to grow. If the nodule is found to be enlarged, the nature of the nodule can be clarified by puncture, or it can be radically removed by surgery.
