Meniere’s syndrome, also known as Meniere’s disease, is an otogenic vertigo due to fluid accumulation in the vagus of the inner ear. The main manifestations are episodes of visual rotation vertigo, with tinnitus, a feeling of ear swelling and fullness, nausea and vomiting, and fluctuating ear hearing loss.
Since the cause of Ménière’s disease is unknown, there is no specific curative medicine available for Ménière’s disease, only symptomatic treatment when the condition strikes. When an attack of Ménière’s disease occurs, the vertigo, nausea and vomiting are relieved as soon as possible and can be treated with drugs such as dehydrating agents and sedatives. When there is no special treatment during the interictal period, it can be treated with drugs such as vasodilators and nerve nutrients. Adjunctive treatment can also be carried out with Chinese herbal medicines that have the ability to activate blood circulation and remove blood stasis and nourish the liver and kidneys. For those with frequent attacks, severe symptoms, longer disease duration, and serious impact on work and life due to the severity of the disease, surgical treatment is considered.
For the prevention of Ménière’s disease, usually low salt and light diet; do not drink too much water; do not overwork and irregularity of life. Have a good state of mind and ensure adequate sleep. During an attack, rest in bed. During the interval of the disease, strengthen the exercise appropriately to enhance the resistance of the body.
