Surviving preterm infants are discharged from the hospital suffering from seven major problems, which can also be described as seven major traps: 1. cerebral palsy; 2. growth retardation; 3. mental retardation; 4. visual/auditory impairment; 5. mild neurological dysfunction; 6. chronic pulmonary disorders; and 7. repeated rehospitalization. Premature infants should be discharged from the hospital with regular visits to specialist clinics for early detection of problems and timely resolution to reduce sequelae or their extent.
