What are the acupoints for pain relief and their exact locations

Acupuncture points used for pain relief include Hegu, Liejiao, Houxi, etc. The exact location of different acupuncture points varies.
1. Hegu is located on the back of the hand, between the 1st and 2nd metacarpal bones, at the midpoint of the radial side of the second metacarpal bone. It is used for treating headache, redness and swelling of the eyes, epistaxis (nosebleed), sore throat, toothache, dysmenorrhea and so on.
2. Lekuo is located in the forearm, 1.5 inches above the transverse stripe on the distal part of the palm side of the wrist, between the tendon of the short extensor digitorum brevis and the tendon of the extensor digitorum longus, and in the groove of the tendon of the extensor digitorum longus. It is used for treating cough, asthma, sore throat, migraine headache, toothache, neck pain and wrist pain.
3. Houxi is located on the back of the hand, in the depression of the proximal part of the ulnar side of the 5th metacarpophalangeal joint (the position where the palm of the hand meets the back of the hand, and the heart of the foot meets the back of the foot). It is used for treating headache, lumbar and back pain, contracture of the fingers and elbow and arm, and deafness.
