What to do when the umbilical cord is wrapped around the neck

There is no need to be nervous, the probability of the umbilical cord wrapping around the neck is very high, one week wrapping around the neck is common, but if it wraps around the neck more than 3 times it should be taken seriously, but we must pay attention to the intrauterine status of the fetus. The umbilical cord is an important link for the exchange of nutrients and gas between the fetus and the mother, and it is common for the umbilical cord to be wrapped around the neck for 1-2 weeks, and there is also the possibility of knotting, shortening, twisting or prolapse of the umbilical cord, which will eventually affect the nutrition and blood supply, leading to chronic or acute ischemia and hypoxia of the fetus, and eventually developing into intrauterine distress or even intrauterine death. This usually occurs when the umbilical cord is too short. Although cord bypass is relatively common, it should not be underestimated. You should pay attention to fetal movement, the number and regularity of fetal movements, and seek medical attention whenever fetal movement is too frequent or slow. Regular checkups are especially important. If the fetal heart monitoring, fetal movement and ultrasound are all normal, the problem is generally not serious. It is common for the umbilical cord to be wrapped around the neck or body as the baby is always moving inside the mother’s body. However, the indications for cesarean section can be relaxed if the cord is wrapped around the neck many times or if fetal distress has been considered.
