There is no medical term for ‘oral mucosal exfoliation’, but pathological oral mucosal exfoliation can be simple oral mucosal exfoliation, or it can be accompanied by erosions, i.e. superficial defects of the mucosal epithelium that do not damage the basal cell layer. In the oral cavity, this can be manifested as a superficial mucosal exfoliation with or without a congested vesicular surface of variable size and shape, with indistinct borders and a smooth surface that does not leave a scar after healing.
