Women are infected with pubic lice mainly through sexual contact by their sexual partners, or indirectly through contact with objects contaminated by the pathogen.
Pubic lice are caused by pubic lice parasitizing the pubic hair area, and are mainly transmitted through sexual contact. A woman’s sexual partner who suffers from pubic lice can easily transmit the infection to the other partner through sexual intercourse.
It can also be transmitted indirectly through contact with clothing, towels and other items that have pubic lice on them, but the chances of infection in this way are relatively low.
Women with pubic lice should seek prompt medical attention and treatment as prescribed by their doctor, which can usually be cured in about a week. The main cure is to shave the pubic hair, take insecticidal and anti-itching treatment to the infected area, and at the same time pay attention to avoid unclean sex.
Pubic lice need to be examined and treated by both sex partners at the same time to prevent re-infection, leading to recurrent episodes of pubic lice.
