To treat severe spleen and kidney yang deficiency, Zhenwu Tang and Shi Spleen San can be used. Spleen and kidney yang deficiency is mostly caused by prolonged illness, which depletes the yang of spleen and kidney; or prolonged ejaculation and dysentery, which damages the spleen yang and fails to nourish the kidney yang; or prolonged entrapment of water evils, which damages the kidney yang and fails to warm up the spleen yang, and ultimately leads to deficiency of both spleen yang and kidney yang. Spleen and kidney yang deficiency is manifested as cold pain in the waist, knees and lower abdomen, prolonged leakage and dysentery, or diarrhea at five o’clock (diarrhea before dawn), undigested grains (more undigested food in the stools), cold stools, or swelling of the whole body, dysuria (unsmooth urination), cold (cold body), cold limbs, and a white complexion. For Kidney-Yang deficiency, Zhen Wu Tang, composed of Poria, Paeoniae Alba, Atractylodes Macrocephalae, Ginger and Radix et Rhizoma Polygoni Multiflori, can be used to treat Yang deficiency of the Spleen and Kidneys, and water-dampness overflow.
