What happens if you don’t treat basal cell carcinoma?

Basal cell carcinoma is a malignant tumor that originates from basal cells and is located in a relatively superficial location as a slow-growing papule or nodule. If left untreated, patients with basal cell carcinoma often experience further progression of the tumor, local invasion or involvement of important structures below, such as the eyes, ears, mouth, and bones. Although basal cell carcinoma is rarely fatal, the quality of life and prognosis of patients may be affected if local invasion occurs. The pathological types of basal cell carcinoma can be categorized into nodular, pigmented, superficial, and scleroderma-like types. The overall prognosis of patients with basal cell carcinoma is relatively good, but the life of patients can be jeopardized without treatment.
