Zheng Chai Hu Drink is composed of Chai Hu, Fenghuang, Chen Pi, Paeoniae Alba, Licorice and Ginger.
In this formula, Chai Hu disperses surface evils (evils on the surface of the muscles); Fang Feng dispels wind-cold and stops pain; Ginger is pungent, warm and dispersing, which helps Chai Hu and Fang Feng to dispel surface evils (so that wind-cold evils can be lifted from the body); Chen Pi soothes qi and helps to dispel evils out of the body; Paeonia lactiflora is beneficial to yin and ying (nourishing yin and harmonizing the medicines), which prevents the medicines from injuring yin too much and Glycyrrhizae radix from harming yin; and Glycyrrhizae radix is harmonizing all medicines.
