Our country is the second most affected country in the world, with more than 3,000 deaths from rabies each year! Rabies is an acute infectious disease caused by rabies virus infection that mainly damages the central nervous system. The main source of infection is dogs, which account for about 95% of cases, followed by cats, other poultry such as cattle, horses, pigs, etc., wild animals such as wolves, monkeys, foxes, etc. In addition, mice, rabbits and guinea pigs are all susceptible animals. The early onset of rabies is typically characterized by fear of water, water swallowing muscle spasms, the inability to swallow water, even if thirsty, but also afraid to drink water, general muscle spasms, mental mania and other symptoms, incubation period of a few days, up to 2 years or decades, the general incidence rate of about 15% within 3 months. The onset time varies depending on the distance of the bite site from the central nervous system and the extent of the bite, and the number of infected viruses. The Ministry of Health has clear rules for post-exposure classification, simply put, contact with animals but no injury position primary exposure, by the animal to cause injury but no bleeding or broken skin by animal contact for secondary exposure, bleeding would be a tertiary exposure. Once the animal to be bitten or scratched, it is recommended to immediately carry out a thorough cleaning and disinfection of the bite site, the general method of wound treatment: rinse the injured area with 20% soapy water for about 20 minutes, and then disinfected with iodine volts, depending on the specific situation, choose to inject rabies vaccine, rabies immunoglobulin, tetanus and other injections.
