The main methods of breast augmentation are breast implants and autologous fat injections. The essence of breast augmentation with implants is to provide good tissue coverage for the implants. When breast implants are placed in the posterior breast space, they have the least amount of tissue coverage, but their position is more in line with human physiology, and they have the strongest augmentation effect on the mammary glands. Breast implants placed in the retrosternal space of the pectoralis major muscle have the thickest tissue coverage, but their augmentation effect on the mammary glands is limited by the compression of the muscle. Combining the advantages of the above 2 procedures, dual-plane breast augmentation, i.e., autologous fat combined with breast implant augmentation, also known as composite augmentation, has been widely accepted by both doctors and patients as the best method of breast augmentation with implants. Autologous fat high volume injection for breast augmentation has developed a consensus on the surgical indications, the handling of fat, and the injection technique for small amount, multiple points, multiple planes, and multiple tunnels. However, hard nodules and calcification will inevitably form after fat grafting. The mainstream international view is still cautious about applying large-volume fat grafting at one time, and advocates that a small amount of fat can be injected for the improvement of local deformity. For breast augmentation with prosthesis, if the amount of tissue covered is thin, the edge of the prosthesis will not be able to make a natural transition. Combined breast augmentation with autologous fat and prosthesis can avoid the shortcomings of both. On one hand, the prosthesis provides the volume needed for breast augmentation and avoids complications such as fat hardness, calcification and necrosis caused by the application of large-dose fat injection; on the other hand, it makes up for the defects such as raised edges and unnatural morphology due to the insertion of the prosthesis.
