Symptoms of Periapical Inflammation

Symptoms of different types of apical periodontitis are also different, generally can be divided into acute apical periodontitis and chronic apical periodontitis. 1. Symptoms of acute apical periodontitis are mainly manifested as spontaneous pain, occlusal pain, gingival swelling in the apical part of the root, and gradually aggravation of pain, even accompanied by systemic symptoms such as fever and fatigue. (2) suppurative: if the inflammation of acute apical periodontitis continues to develop, acute apical abscess will be formed, at this time the pain is aggravated, the knocking pain is obvious, and there is a persistent throbbing pain, and severe pain when biting. When the pus spreads to the periosteum, the pain and swelling become more obvious, and the pain reaches its peak, which can be accompanied by systemic symptoms such as elevated body temperature and weakness. 2. Chronic periapical inflammation: (1) apical granuloma: generally no spontaneous pain, only chewing discomfort, biting weakness, discomfort on percussion, the affected tooth may have the feeling of elongation. (2) Periapical abscess: there may be a sinus tract in the mucosa of the apical region of the affected tooth, and there is often granulation tissue proliferation at the mouth of the sinus tract, and pus may be discharged from the sinus tract when squeezed. (3) Periapical cysts: the teeth will be discolored, the apical part of the cyst, if the cyst increases, forcing the surrounding bone resorption, in the apical part of the mucosa of the affected teeth more semicircular bulge, touching the ping-pong feeling.
