Regarding the best time to operate for polydactyly, we believe that between 3 and 6 months is more appropriate. The reason is that if the child is in good health and has no other complications, the child will have met the basic conditions for anesthesia at around 3 months of age, and anesthesia is relatively safe. If the surgery is performed around 3 months of age, the child’s fingers can grow more rapidly and quickly after the surgery. In addition, the child can quickly establish the function of the thumb. If the surgery is done when the child is older, the child will have several problems: the child will be more afraid of the surgery; the rehabilitation exercise will be relatively slow; and the growth rate of the preserved thumb will be limited after the surgery. Therefore, we recommend that children undergo surgery as early as possible, 3-6 months, if conditions allow. Before polydactyly surgery After polydactyly surgery
