The most commonly reported adverse effect of Novoctal insulin, also known as Degludec insulin, is hypoglycemia. Hypoglycemia may occur if the insulin is given at a dose much higher than the insulin needs. Hypoglycemia may also occur because of not eating, and strenuous exercise. With Novocta insulin, there is also the possibility of nasopharyngitis, headache, upper respiratory tract infection, and diarrhea. Hypersensitivity reactions such as swelling of the lips and tongue, diarrhea, nausea, fatigue, itching and hives rarely occur during treatment. The use of Novocta insulin can also cause fatty growth and fat atrophy at the injection site, so the injection site should be rotated to help reduce these reactions. Injections of Novartis insulin may also cause injection site reactions, including causing injection site hematoma, pain, bleeding, erythema, nodules, swelling and discoloration, itching, heat sensation, and injection site lumps. These reactions are usually mild and transient and will subside during treatment, and may also cause weight gain. Therefore, observation should be made during the administration of the drug and any signs of discomfort should be promptly seen.
