Thalassemia genetic pattern

Thalassemia is an inherited hemolytic disorder that is influenced by the combined genetic predisposition of both parents. The rule of thalassemia inheritance is: i. If one parent is thalassemia minor and one is normal, their offspring have 50% chance to be normal and another 50% chance to be thalassemia minor. ii. If both parents are thalassemia minor, their children have a 1/4 chance of being normal, a 1/4 chance of being thalassemia moderate, and a 1/2 chance of being thalassemia minor. III. If one parent is normal and one parent is moderate thalassemia, their child has a 1/2 chance of being normal and a 1/2 chance of being mild thalassemia. IV. If one parent is mild thalassemia and one parent is moderate thalassemia, their child has a 1/2 chance of being moderate thalassemia and a 1/4 chance of being severe thalassemia.
