Cisplatin is a common anti-tumor drug and has a long history of use as a first-line treatment for ovarian cancer, lung cancer, and many other cancers. While it is an anti-tumor agent, it can also have a number of side effects. The first and most common side effect is nephrotoxicity, so doctors need to give hydration when using higher doses of cisplatin. Secondly, gastrointestinal symptoms, such as nausea and vomiting, may occur. Neurotoxicity, such as tinnitus and hearing loss, may also occur. Alopecia is not the most common side effect of cisplatin, but hair loss may occur.
