Midazolam injection is commonly used for sedation and also as an adjunct to sleep induction during surgical procedures or diagnostic tests. Midazolam injection has anxiolytic, sedative, hypnotic, anticonvulsant, and muscle relaxing effects. Midazolam injection can be used as an adjunct to preoperative sedation, intralesional anesthesia and local anesthesia, as well as for sedation care of critically ill patients. In addition to the above, it is often used in clinical practice for diagnostic or therapeutic operations, such as cardiovascular imaging, bronchoscopy, gastrointestinal endoscopy, etc. Midazolam injection has a fast onset of action, but its drug duration is short. When patients have seizures, intravenous injection can play a role in rapid sedation and control of persistent seizures. However, because of the typical benzodiazepine pharmacological activity of midazolam injection, it should not be used by people who are allergic to benzodiazepines. In addition, midazolam injection should not be used in pregnant women in the early stages of pregnancy, and special attention should be paid to its dosage when used during maternal delivery, as high doses can lead to respiratory depression, hypotonia, and decreased body temperature in newborns.
