Loquat has the effect of moistening the lungs and lowering the qi (moisturizing the lungs to bring down the upward lung qi) and quenching thirst, etc. However, the efficacy of drying it and using it to make water to drink is limited and it is difficult to achieve the therapeutic effect, so it should be used in accordance with the standardization of the use of the doctor’s prescription. Loquat belongs to a kind of sweet and cool nature of Chinese herbal medicine, used for the treatment of lung-heat coughing, thirst, vomiting, hiccups and so on. The adverse effects of loquat are not clear, excessive intake of loquat tends to cause dampness and phlegm, and loquat is contraindicated for those with spleen deficiency and slippage (those with diarrhea that does not stop with spleen deficiency and weakness). Loquat can be taken raw or in a decoction. Fresh loquat flesh and rock sugar can be used to treat lung-heat cough.
