Why are intellectuals prone to dementia?

With the accelerated aging of the population, the incidence of dementia is also on the rise. Based on the author’s years of experience in geriatric work, combined with domestic and international research, a thought-provoking topic gradually emerged, that is, why are intellectuals prone to dementia? Why are brain workers prone to dementia? In the past six months, the number of dementia patients who came to the clinic increased day by day, both male and female, with ages ranging from 53 to 86 years old. Their living standard can be said to be carefree, and their family life atmosphere is relatively harmonious and happy. But at an age when they should be enjoying their lives, they unknowingly suffer from a disease that is still difficult to overcome ——– dementia! What exactly causes dementia in this group of people? What is the pathogenesis of the disease? Nowadays, although medical science has conducted deep research and exploration on the pathogenesis of dementia, it has achieved the following results: “senile plaques”, “neurofibrillary tangles”, “loss of brain neurons”, “loss of brain neurons”, “loss of brain neurons” and “loss of brain neurons”. “However, there is still no fundamental and authoritative consensus on the pathogenesis of dementia, especially from the perspective of etiology. As a result, there are some speculative opinions: genetically related; overworked (overuse of brain); diet-related, mainly partial diet or unreasonable diet structure, etc. If these ideas can be confirmed, then it is undoubtedly the best answer to why intellectuals are prone to dementia. Although it is not yet possible to draw a self-evident conclusion to support the etiology and pathogenesis of dementia, one thing is certain, that is, a positive attitude to life, a rich life content, overcoming a single diet, etc., are very beneficial to the prevention of dementia. Also, for the treatment of dementia, early recognition and early treatment should be achieved. Don’t get into the habit of thinking that it is normal to forget things when you get older and that it is normal to have poor memory when you get older. People who hold such a view will undoubtedly do more harm than good to the prevention and treatment of dementia.
