September 21 is International Alzheimer’s Day, and this year’s theme is “Take Action Now for Dementia”. The prevalence of Alzheimer’s disease in China is gradually increasing with the increase of life expectancy. The disease has become the fourth leading cause of death among the elderly, after heart disease, cancer and stroke. It is well known that the late former U.S. President Reagan and the 2009 Nobel Prize winner in physics, Professor Charles Kao, former president of the Chinese University of Hong Kong, who is known as the “father of fiber optics,” were both plagued by Alzheimer’s disease in their later years. Alzheimer’s disease, also known as Alzheimer’s disease (AD for short), is a chronic progressive brain disorder caused by damage to brain cells. It is mainly characterized by impairment in memory and daily living ability, and eventually the person will become bedridden, incontinent, and completely dependent on family members for care, and may even act aggressively, causing exhaustion and suffering to caregivers and family members. The cost of Alzheimer’s disease is equivalent to the sum of myocardial infarction, stroke and cancer, and it places a heavy burden on families and society. The onset of Alzheimer’s disease is progressive and insidious, so early intervention, early prevention, early diagnosis and early treatment play a vital role in slowing down the disease process and improving its efficacy. The current national situation is “three low” – low awareness rate, low consultation rate and low treatment rate, which brings us a warning. Alzheimer’s patients urgently need the care of social groups, and professional social groups can organize, mobilize and integrate resources from all sides in order to achieve the scale and optimization of prevention and treatment. According to a survey, nearly half of the family members of Alzheimer’s patients believe that “senile confusion” is the result of natural aging. Since most people do not pay attention to or cannot accurately identify the early symptoms of Alzheimer’s disease, the consultation rate is less than 20% among the 6 million Alzheimer’s patients in China. So, how can you intervene early in Alzheimer’s disease? Understanding the following symptoms may help you determine whether your family member has early symptoms of Alzheimer’s disease, so that early detection and early treatment can be achieved. 1.Transient forgetfulness: Patients often forget things and can never remember afterwards, and may ask the same question repeatedly, forgetting the earlier answer. 2.Forgetfulness: Patients may forget to bring the meal to the table, or even forget the meal that has been prepared. 3.Words do not make sense: Patients may forget even some simple words, or they may not use appropriate phrases to express themselves. 4. Poor memory of time and place: Patients may get lost in the streets and intersections near their residence. 5. Decreased judgment: Patients may completely forget the children under their care and leave them at home. Confusion in thinking, easily deceived, and indiscriminate dressing regardless of the season. 6.Loss of abstract thinking ability: Patients often forget the passwords they set for their passbooks and the amount of their own deposits. 7. Disposable items: Patients often put items in inappropriate locations or treasure many scraps such as waste paper and cloths as treasures. 8.Changes in temper and behavior: Within a short period of time, behavior and emotions may change from a calm state to a tearful state or a shooting. 9.Change in personality: The patient’s personality may undergo drastic and unreasonable changes, such as suspicion, suspicion of others, suspicion of spousal infidelity, sense of theft of property, etc. 10, loss of initiative: often become lazier than before, will not take the initiative to interact with others, often sit there without talking or working. Reluctance to participate in any activities, even the original favorite activities.
