How to treat cataracts

In today’s medical technology, the most effective and complete treatment for cataracts, and the only way to cure them, is surgery.

Cataracts are one of the most important diseases that cause blindness in China. It is a disease that affects vision by clouding the lens in the eye and is closely related to aging, endocrine diseases (such as diabetes), and trauma. The symptoms of cataracts are painless and slow vision loss, and surgery may be considered when the patient’s vision is affected or when the patient’s life is restricted.

The most popular form of cataract surgery today is “cataract ultrasound emulsification combined with IOL implantation”, which simply means that the cloudy lens (cataract lesion) is emulsified and aspirated through ultrasound, and then a clear IOL matching the patient’s refractive error is implanted into the eye to replace the aspirated cloudy lens. The procedure is then completed. The surgery usually takes about 10 minutes and requires a day of post-operative bandaging, and the patient can start using the eye properly the day after surgery.

Therefore, cataract treatment is relatively single and simple, but very effective. Patients do not need to worry too much and choose surgery at the right time, both in terms of risk control and post-operative expectations, to obtain good results.
