Newborns who are mildly asphyxiated usually do not suffer from serious brain damage, but may have minor effects. Because mild asphyxia can also cause a lack of oxygen supply to the body’s tissues, it can cause a mild lack of oxygen to the brain tissue. Usually a short period of asphyxia (within 1 minute) can be followed by a quick recovery and usually leaves no after-effects, but a lack of oxygen to the brain for more than 5 minutes can lead to permanent brain damage. A detailed examination is recommended to clarify the cause.
