What is the surgical procedure for a perianal abscess?

The general procedure of perianal abscess surgery includes anesthesia, disinfection, toweling, incision, drainage, flushing, stuffing and bandaging.

1. Anesthesia: Generally, perianal abscess surgery needs to be performed under local anesthesia or half anesthesia.

2. Disinfection: after successful anesthesia, the operator needs to disinfect the perianal skin, routinely disinfect three times.

3. Toweling: A sterile cavity towel will be spread on the buttocks, exposing the abscess area and the perianal area.

4. Incision: The abscess is incised at the most obvious part of the abscess and the cavity is emptied of pus.

5. Drainage: If the pus in the abscess cavity does not drain well, drainage is needed. If the patient has anal fistula at the same time, it is feasible to hang the anal fistula.

6. Drainage: after drainage, use hydrogen peroxide solution or povidone-iodine to flush and disinfect the abscess cavity.

7. Filling: Fill the abscess cavity with gauze to drain.

8. Dressing: Finally, a sterile dressing is applied.

The above procedure is the general operation steps of perianal abscess surgery, which may vary depending on the patient’s condition and the operator’s operation.
