Collecting your own throat swabs is not recommended. Pharyngeal swabs can be collected for nucleic acid testing by both oropharyngeal and nasopharyngeal swabs. 1. Oropharyngeal swab: Before collection, slightly raise the head, open the mouth, completely expose the tonsils and the posterior pharyngeal wall, gently wipe back and forth on both sides of the tonsils at least 3 times, then wipe up and down the posterior pharyngeal wall at least 3 times, avoiding swab contact with the tongue when removing the swab to complete the sampling, place the swab into the sample tube, screw the cap on tightly, and submit it for examination. 2. Nasopharyngeal swab: Lift up the head, put the sampling swab into the nasal cavity, about 5cm for adults and 3cm for children, rotate the swab twice after penetrating deeply into the nasal cavity to collect the sample, then put the swab into the sample tube, tighten the cap and submit it for examination. It is recommended to collect and test in a regular medical institution. Pay attention to avoid smoking, drinking, chewing gum, etc. within 30 minutes before sampling, and pay attention to hand hygiene before and after the test by wiping hands with hands-free disinfectant or alcohol.
