Enteral nutrition and nasal feeding both have different levels of inclusions. Enteral nutrition includes oral and nasal feeding, while nasal feeding is a type of enteral nutrition. Enteral nutrition is primarily a form of nutritional support that provides nutrients needed for metabolism via the gastrointestinal tract. Nasogastric feeding refers to the provision of a rich fluid diet through a nasal feeding tube to patients who are unable to eat by mouth, i.e., the nutrients are introduced into the gastrointestinal tract of the patients through a feeding hose and the nutrients are provided to the human body through the digestive and absorptive effects of the gastrointestinal tract. The essence is still to take in nutrients through the gastrointestinal tract. Enteral nutrition and nasogastric feeding are both containing and being contained. Nasogastric feeding is mainly applicable to those who have difficulty in swallowing, those who have eating disorders and those who cannot eat by mouth. Nasogastric feeding should pay attention to the patient’s position, can choose semi-recumbent position or sitting position.
