Heart disease caused by atherosclerosis of coronary arteries is called coronary heart disease, which is one of the major killers of human health and life in the world today. In China, with the improvement of people’s living standard, the mortality rate caused by cardiovascular diseases has a tendency to increase. What is of particular concern is that the age of onset of coronary heart disease among residents, especially in urban areas, is trending younger. Among intellectuals, civil servants and business groups, the proportion of coronary heart disease incidence is higher because of the overload workload and various stresses, which has to make us raise the alarm. If coronary artery disease and its extent can be clearly demonstrated before the occurrence of myocardial infarction or even when it is completely asymptomatic, the occurrence of angina pectoris or myocardial infarction will likely be completely avoided or reduced by taking appropriate therapeutic measures. Although conventional intubation coronary angiography is currently the routine means of detecting coronary artery disease, it is painful and may have serious adverse consequences (complications) in addition to the high cost of the examination, so the widespread use of coronary angiography as a screening method for the early detection of coronary artery disease is greatly limited. The use of multi-row spiral CT to image and diagnose the heart is a cutting-edge technology in the medical field, and the emergence of multi-row CT coronary imaging technology has brought a new non-invasive coronary artery examination method to patients with asymptomatic or mildly symptomatic occult coronary artery disease. Foreign studies of the newly applied 64-row CT examination concluded that diagnostic quality coronary artery images were obtained in approximately 96% of patients, with an accuracy of 92% for all coronary artery branches. This is a surprising result and means that the use of CT for coronary artery disease is not inferior to conventional imaging methods. The advantages of 64-row CT coronary imaging are mainly reflected in the following two aspects: 1. To display the coronary artery trunk and major branches in a comprehensive manner. It can also accurately measure and score the degree and extent of stenosis as well as the size and nature of plaque, thus guiding the choice of clinical treatment plan. 2. Safe and non-invasive postoperative follow-up. The non-invasive, safe, effective and relatively low cost of 64-row CT coronary artery imaging makes it convenient to perform regular post-operative follow-up examinations of patients with coronary artery disease who have had stents placed or coronary artery bypass grafting, to clearly show the stent morphology and intracavitary patency, and to understand the effect of surgery and the presence of restenosis.
