What is soft tissue

Soft tissue is the term used in orthopedic surgery. Bones are hard tissues, while the tissues surrounding the bones, such as blood vessels, nerves, muscles, tendons, fatty tissues, fascia, etc. are called soft tissues. The main object of fracture surgery is the injured bone, while the soft tissues around the bone are normal. During the surgery, these normal soft tissues need to be cut open to reveal the injured bone in order to treat the injured bone. This is actually a process of destruction, so we should try to separate along the normal physiological gap of the muscles to avoid damage to nerves and blood vessels, etc. The lack of blood supply during the healing process of fracture after blood vessel injury will delay or not heal the fracture, and the corresponding innervated muscles cannot contract after nerve injury, forming muscle atrophy and affecting the functional movement of the patient’s limbs, so skeletal surgery emphasizes avoiding soft tissue injury.
