From the perspective of Western medicine, if the body temperature is relatively low when you have a fever, and there is a significant cough and phlegm within 38℃, but there is white phlegm, it is a viral cold. However, if the body temperature increases when you have a fever and exceeds 38℃ or even above, and if it is accompanied by obvious yellow purulent discharge, it is a bacterial cold.
