What is a cold and fever?

What is a cold when you have a fever cannot be generalized, but needs to be analyzed in terms of the fever type and accompanying symptoms. From the perspective of Chinese medicine, if the fever is mainly of low fever type, with body temperature within 38.5℃ and accompanied by obvious clear nasal discharge, it usually belongs to wind-cold type of cold. However, if the fever is significantly higher than 38.5℃ and accompanied by yellow purulent nasal discharge, it is considered as wind-heat type cold. From the perspective of Western medicine, if the body temperature is relatively low when you have a fever, and there is a significant cough and phlegm within 38℃, but there is white phlegm, it is a viral cold. However, if the body temperature increases when you have a fever and exceeds 38℃ or even above, and if it is accompanied by obvious yellow purulent discharge, it is a bacterial cold.
