How long it takes to speak after cerebral infarction is related to the site of infarction, its size, and the individual’s basic condition. Some patients can regain their speech function in a few days; some patients may have difficulty in regaining their speech function. Once the brain cells are damaged, they cannot be recovered and it is an irreversible damage. In general, if the infarction site is in a non-functional area of the brain, the smaller the infarction area is, and the basic condition of the individual is good, the patient’s symptoms will be recovered more quickly after active medication or surgical treatment, which saves part of the brain tissue. Some patients can resume speaking after a few days or even on the same day. If the infarction site is the functional area of the brain, such as the language center in the posterior part of the inferior frontal gyrus; or if the infarction site is large and the individual is in poor condition, it will be difficult to recover the speech function, and there may be sequelae such as slurred speech and hoarse voice. Therefore, after cerebral infarction surgery, one should actively cooperate with the physician for treatment and active rehabilitation training, in order to restore speech function as soon as possible.
