To this day we still don’t know what causes type 1 diabetes. But we know for sure that it’s not from eating too much candy. The general consensus is that 60-70% of type 1 diabetes comes from non-genetic factors, that is, lifestyle, habits, infections, or risk factors from having been exposed to certain environments, but we don’t know exactly what those factors are, and although the cause is not clear, there are many speculative theories. In the early 1960s, it was rare to hear of anyone having diabetes. In those days, people lived simply, ate simply, and had three very regular meals a day. It seems that in order to stay healthy, “sugar lovers” may be better suited to live a simple life. Therefore, I advocate that “sugar lovers” live a simpler, more regular, more fulfilling life. Simple life means to maintain a balanced nutrition, away from fat, sweet and greasy; maintain a moderate amount of exercise and walking, do not rely on boats and horses; close to fruits and vegetables, away from alcohol and tobacco; food should be original, should not be overcooked. In fact, a simple life is a healthy life. Modern research shows that high fat, high protein food intake too much and too little exercise life has led to 205 million obese men, 297 million obese women, another 1.5 billion adults overweight; each year due to obesity caused by heart disease, diabetes, cancer and other diseases leading to early death of 3 million people. Adherence to simple living is the most effective measure to control weight, reduce sugar and blood pressure, prevent cancer and prolong life.
