How long does an acute cerebral infarction require hospitalization?

Cerebral infarction is clinically classified into hyperacute, acute, recovery and post-acute phases depending on the time of onset. Patients with acute cerebral infarction need to be hospitalized for at least two weeks. The hyper-acute phase is the best treatment period when the onset is within a few hours. Patients are treated with intravenous thrombolysis within 4.5 hours to recanalize the blocked blood vessels and restore function to the damaged brain tissue. The acute phase is within two weeks of onset and requires hospitalization. If the time window for thrombolysis is missed, embolization may be required and the prognosis is relatively poor. The recovery period is defined as within one year of onset. If the onset time is longer than one year, it is generally called the sequelae period and requires rehabilitation treatment and care. Therefore, once a patient has an acute cerebral infarction attack, it is recommended to call the emergency number 120 in time for early treatment in order to avoid more serious consequences.
