A tracheal tube is a device used in tracheotomy patients, and the indications for switching to metal are that the patient needs to be on a tube for a long time, but does not need to be connected to a ventilator, and that a sinus tract has formed. The tracheal tube can be made of metal or plastic, which can fix the tracheal tube, close the tracheal slit, and prevent the tracheal tube from shifting; in addition, it forms a relatively closed space to ensure the airflow in and out of the tracheal tube, which facilitates tracheal intubation and allows the patient to maintain normal respiratory function. The diameter of metal cannula is thinner than that of plastic cannula, which is more comfortable for the patient to wear and is favorable for future plugging. Therefore, metal cannula is suitable for patients who need to be intubated for a long period of time and do not need to be connected to a ventilator for assisted breathing, and the local sinus tract has been formed. There are silver and titanium alloy metal cannula, silver tracheal cannula is not commonly used in clinic because of its soft and light material, which is easy to be deformed; titanium alloy tracheal cannula has moderate hardness and is more widely used in clinic. After replacing the metal tube, attention should be paid to timely suction for the patient to prevent the formation of sputum crust. It needs to be sterilized regularly every day to prevent blockage of secretions and the formation of local granulomas. It can be sterilized by immersion or boiling. Tracheotomy patients, must follow the doctor’s instructions to do a good job of care, to avoid the emergence of respiratory tract infection.
