A kidney transplant only requires one kidney to be transplanted?

The kidney has a very strong compensatory capacity, and with normal kidney function, one kidney can take on the physiological needs of the body, which is why one kidney transplant is sufficient for a kidney transplant. Generally, the diseased kidney is removed without surgery and the donor kidney is transplanted in the iliac fossa on the side of the lower abdomen. Conventionally, the left donor kidney is placed in the recipient’s right iliac fossa and the right donor kidney is placed in the left iliac fossa, but some transplant surgeons believe that there is no need to differentiate the placement.
