Total cystectomy urinary diversion is one of the methods of treating bladder cancer by removing the bladder and then using a section of small intestine to replace the bladder for urine storage and drainage, so the bilateral ureters need to be anastomosed at the end of this section of small intestine. This anastomosis often leads to ureteral stricture and many patients develop severe renal impairment or even renal insufficiency as a result. Once a patient with total cystectomy develops hydronephrosis it should be treated actively, otherwise it is only a matter of time before a kidney is lost. In this case, the patient had bilateral ureteral stenosis, and although a ureteral stent was left in place, the renal damage continued, but resolving the ureteral stenosis could slow down the process of renal function damage.
