What does monomorphic adenoma mean

Monomorphic adenoma is an adenoma that mainly occurs in the parotid gland and other places, mostly benign, early symptoms are not obvious, with the possibility of malignant transformation, which can be diagnosed through pathological examination, and it is recommended to remove it as soon as possible if it is found.
Monomorphic adenomas are less common in clinic, which are found in the parotid gland, but also in the palate, upper lip, nasal cavity and other places. The tumor grows slowly and its size varies from a few millimeters to several centimeters. It has clear boundaries, obvious envelope, and can be movable. Most patients have no obvious clinical symptoms in the early stage, and in the late stage, nasal congestion, tear overflow, facial deformity and other manifestations may occur due to tumor compression or tissue invasion.
Pathological examination showed that the tumor originated from ductal epithelium without myoepithelial component. There is little interstitium in the tumor. It needs to be differentiated from pleomorphic adenoma and adenoid cystic carcinoma. It is most common in people around 60-63 years old. Surgical resection is the mainstay after definitive diagnosis, and care should be taken to avoid intraoperative bleeding due to rupture of the tumor by gentle movements. Most of the tumors do not recur after removal, and can be checked again according to the doctor’s recommendation.
If you suspect a monomorphic adenoma, it is recommended that you go to the hospital for prompt treatment.
