Cranberries may prevent urinary tract infections

Cranberries, similar to blueberries and blackberries, are a berry fruit with a high antioxidant capacity. It has become an indispensable accompaniment to meals and an everyday eating partner in American households. Back in colonial times, sailors kept cranberries on board to prevent scurvy caused by vitamin C deficiency. The English Journal of Medicine has written that cranberry juice may prevent urinary tract infections. Women’s urethra is shorter than men’s and is more prone to infections, and once a urinary tract infection occurs, it can easily recur even after being cured. Recent scientific research has also shown that cranberry juice can prevent disease-making bacteria from adhering to the body’s cellular mechanism, making it difficult for bacteria that cause urinary tract infections to adhere to the walls of the urethra, so that even if the bacteria can still overcome the difficult environment and survive, they will still be expelled from the body with urine. Therefore, British researchers suggest that drinking about 350 cc of cranberry juice or cranberry nutritional supplements every day is helpful in preventing urinary tract infections and cystitis. In addition to its ability to prevent urinary tract infections, cranberry can also effectively inhibit the attachment of H. pylori bacteria to the gut. H. pylori is the main cause of stomach ulcers and even stomach cancer.
