What is gastrointestinal flatulence

Gastrointestinal flatulence is caused by functional disorders or organic lesions of the gastrointestinal tract, resulting in the phenomenon of stomach and abdominal distension. The main clinical manifestations of flatulence are early satiety with frequent hiccups, a feeling of fullness after meals, epigastric distension or burning sensation, nausea, and lack of appetite. Depending on the cause, the course of the disease, and the location, patients may experience one or more of these symptoms. The most important causes of gastrointestinal flatulence are the following: swallowing a large amount of air during meals; dysfunction of the digestive and absorptive functions of the gastrointestinal tract, resulting in an increase in the production of gas in the gastrointestinal tract; and inflammation and obstruction of the gastrointestinal tract leading to flatulence. Patients with mild symptoms can be treated at home by paying attention to their diet and eating less raw, hard and stimulating foods. If the symptoms are severe, please go to the hospital immediately and receive treatment under the guidance of a doctor.
