Hot water foot soak can relieve diabetic leg and foot pain is it true

With the concept of health and wellness in everyone’s mind, many people want to soak their feet in hot water, in which they can activate the blood and remove blood stasis, and many of my relatives and neighbors are using hot water to soak their feet. We have also met many diabetic patients in our hospital who have pain in their legs and feet and also want to relieve relief by soaking their feet in hot water. I tell you, for such patients, foot soaking is likely to aggravate and worsen the condition, and even bring disaster. why? First, let’s just understand the causes of diabetes pain, there are many of them, today we will just talk about the pain caused by vascular disease. Excess sugar in the blood causes a series of complex physiological changes, one of the results of which can lead to hardening, narrowing and even occlusion of arteries and blood vessels. Then, let’s learn more about the body’s blood vessels. The blood in the arteries is transported from the heart down to the legs and feet, where it is rich in nutrients and oxygen. After passing through the capillaries, the blood carries metabolites (waste) through the venous blood and back to the heart. The blood vessels are distributed in the legs like forked branches, all over the muscles and skin. If the arteries dilate, there is an increase in the flow of nutritious arterial blood. When you soak your feet in hot water, the local temperature increases, which causes the arteries to dilate, especially the skin vessels – probably the term blood activation comes roughly from this. Arterial dilation of the lower extremities, especially manifested as skin congestion, more arterial blood into the lower extremities; but the local tissue temperature increases, correspondingly increasing the cellular activity of the lower extremities, oxygen consumption increases, in fact aggravating the possibility of ischemic symptoms. However, the venous reflux capacity will not be increased as a result, but will instead aggravate blood stagnation, again not conducive to improved circulation in the lower extremities. In addition hot water foot soak can also lead to capillary rupture, the formation of bleeding spots on the skin, this serious up will also form diabetic foot ulcers and infections; if patients with venous thrombosis are taking anticoagulant drugs, the bleeding will be more serious. In short, diabetic patients or patients with lower limb vascular inflammation, we must not blindly use hot water foot soak, so as not to add to their health.
