How to Rehabilitate an Ankle Injury

Rehabilitation of ankle injury includes pressurized immobilization, braking and resting, cold and hot compresses, and functional exercises.
1. Pressure fixation: before ankle injury without swelling, you can use elastic bandage on the local pressure bandage fixation, which can protect the joint, inhibit swelling, and accelerate the speed of recovery.
2. Brake and rest: the ankle should be braked immediately after the injury.
3. Cold and hot compresses: Cold compresses should be applied within 24 hours after the injury to promote swelling and reduce pain symptoms. After that, hot compresses can be applied to promote tissue recovery.
4. Functional exercise: After the acute stage of ankle injury, you can start the functional exercise of ankle joint, including local muscle isometric contraction, moving the toes, etc. After a period of recovery, you can start the functional exercise of ankle joint gradually. After recovering for a period of time, the patient can gradually perform ankle flexion, extension and rotation exercises, as well as resistance exercises and balance exercises to strengthen the muscle strength, prevent adhesion of the joint and prevent re-injury.
It is suggested that patients should carry out the treatment and rehabilitation of ankle sprain under the guidance of doctors to avoid secondary injuries caused by improper self-exercise.
