For young patients who consume raw shiitake mushrooms in small amounts and have a good constitution, strong immune system and no obvious primary underlying disease, no obvious toxic-like reaction will occur. However, in elderly people or those with obvious primary underlying diseases, weaker constitution and weaker immunity, poisoning may occur if a large amount of raw shiitake mushrooms are consumed. Patients may experience symptoms similar to infectious diarrhea, including nausea, vomiting, acid reflux, heartburn, colic-like symptoms under the glabella and around the navel, accompanied by diarrhea, watery stools, and mucopurulent stools. Patients may also experience chest tightness, shortness of breath, palpitations, precordial discomfort, and in severe cases, dizziness, headache, and transient loss of consciousness. Once a patient develops these conditions, it is important to consider the occurrence of poisoning by taking raw shiitake mushrooms and must quickly arrive at the emergency department of a hospital for treatment such as gastric lavage.
