Genital herpes is a clinically common sexually transmitted disease caused by infection with the herpes simplex virus. Genital herpes does not necessarily get worse with age. Genital herpes does tend to recur, but the reason for this characteristic is that the herpes simplex virus, in addition to causing clusters of blisters on the patient’s skin, also lurks deep inside the patient’s body after it infects the body. When the patient’s immune system is good, no flare-ups occur, and when the patient’s immune system is poor, flare-ups can occur. The patient’s immune system may be declining as he or she ages, so for older, more tired patients, recurrent genital herpes does occur. However, there are many patients who are older but have been in good physical condition so genital herpes does not recur particularly badly. But the repeated presence of genital herpes increases the risk of patients contracting other diseases.
