Lithotripsy treatments do exist clinically and can be divided into oral lithotripsy, perfusion lithotripsy, and herbal lithotripsy. There are two main types of oral lithotripsy drugs used: goose deoxycholic acid (CDCA) and ursodeoxycholic acid (VDCA). These two drugs desaturate the bile by reducing the secretion of bile cholesterol, while unsaturated bile has the effect of dissolving cholesterol, so that the cholesterol molecules on the surface of gallstones are dissolved continuously, and the volume of gallstones is gradually reduced to complete dissolution. Commonly used herbal preparations include gallstone dissolving soup and lithotripsy soup. The effect is to change the internal environment of the body, eliminate the toxic substances in the blood that produce stones, remove the material basis for the production of stones, dissolve the larger stones, break them into smaller pieces and expel them from the body, and prevent the recurrence of stones by purifying the internal environment after removing the endotoxins. In clinical use, only a very small number of gallbladder stones can be dissolved by taking medicine, and the conditions are very demanding. The following conditions must be met: (1) the gallbladder function is basically normal; (2) the stones are purely cholesterol-based; (3) the stones are not larger than 10 mm; and (4) the medication is taken consistently for 1-2 years. Even so, only 8-10% are completely dissolved. However, as soon as the medication is stopped, the stones will grow back, so the treatment is not the root cause.
