A physical examination and appropriate laboratory tests will be performed on the donor during the blood donation. The physical examination includes the donor’s weight and blood pressure. For adult males, they should not donate blood if their weight is below 50kg, and for adult females, they should not donate blood if their weight is below 45kg. Blood pressure should also be measured. Donors with high or low blood pressure should not donate blood. In addition, routine blood tests should be performed, including routine blood tests, hepatitis B surface antigen, hepatitis C antibodies, syphilis antibodies, and HIV antibodies. If a person is positive for hepatitis B surface antigen, which means hepatitis B virus carrier, positive for hepatitis C antibodies, positive for syphilis antibodies, or positive for AIDS antibodies, these results are not acceptable for blood donation because these diseases can be transmitted to healthy people through blood.
